The Center on Aging and Aged was founded on the Bloomington Campus in 1979. Center objectives are:

1) to facilitate the expansion of educational opportunities in gerontology
2) to promote multidisciplinary research on topics and concerns related to aging
3) to provide consultation, as well as continuing education and training, to individuals and agencies serving the aging and aged
4) to interpret and disseminate existing knowledge about the many aspects of aging that affect the lives of older people
5) to work to increase public awareness of the contributions, as well as the concerns, of older Americans
6) to maintain sensitivity to needs of exceptional aging populations such as the developmentally disabled, handicapped, minorities, and rural-isolated, as well as to needs of the mainstream aging population.
