The Institute for American Thought is a research center that supports the work of two renowned scholarly editions while providing a unique resource for students and scholars worldwide. The Institute's collections feature the largest consolidated accumulation of the extant papers of Peirce and Santayana, as well as all of the scholarly records deriving for over 25 years of textual study for both the Peirce Edition and the Santayana Edition. In 2004-05, the Frederick Douglass Papers also is an affiliated project of the Institute. The Institute houses two academic programs, an undergraduate minor in American Studies and a graduate certificate program in scholarly and professional editing, and edits a journal for the Association for Documentary Editing. At the center of the Institute is the Max H. Fisch Library, a 20,000 volume special collection devoted to American Thought.
