The general mission of the Indiana Geological Survey is to provide
services to the State of Indiana that contribute to the wise stewardship
of its energy, mineral and groundwater resources, and to the health,
safety, and welfare of its citizenry through identification and
investigation of geologic hazards. This mission is carried out
through a combination of the following activities: data collection
and storage, public service and information dissemination in the
form of published maps, reports, databases, education programs,
research, cooperative studies with federal, state, and local government
agencies, industrial organizations, and educational institutions.
Many of the products of the Indiana Geological Survey are available
at its website igs.indiana.edu.
By performing these services to the state, the Geological Survey
contributes to the public service mission of Indiana University.
