The Rural Center for AIDS/STD Prevention (RCAP), which began operation in March 1994, is a joint project of Indiana University, Purdue University, and the University of Colorado. Headquartered at Indiana University, RCAP is largely funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The major focus of RCAP is the promotion of HIV/STD prevention in rural America, with the goals of reducing HIV/STD incidence.

Center activities include:
1. Develop and evaluate educational materials and approaches.
2. Examine the behavioral and social barriers to HIV/STD prevention which can be applied to prevention programming.
3. Provide prevention resources to professionals.
