The Social Studies Development Center (SSDC), founded in 1968, is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education of Indiana University. Its mission is to improve education in the social studies in elementary and secondary schools. Toward this end, SSDC projects involve research on teaching and learning, development of curriculum frameworks and instructional materials, and diffusion of ideas about education in the social studies.
