Indiana Initiative for Economic Development
The Indiana Initiative for Economic Development (IIED) is an economic development program designed to foster technology development and job growth in the state of Indiana. The Initiative makes available advanced computing technology and expertise to companies whose proposed projects advance the Indiana economy, foster job creation in high-tech jobs in Indiana, and show promise in creating new technologies. The Initiative is a partnership among IBM, Indiana University, Purdue University, and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC). Computing resources dedicated to this Initiative are jointly owned by Purdue University and Indiana University, and housed on IU's Bloomington campus. The resources are configured for maximum flexibility, allowing each University to develop industry partnerships independently or in a collaborative effort.
Leverage a world-class cyberinfrastructure
The Research Technologies (RT) division of UITS has a mission to provide and support research computing resources that enable new scientific and artistic breakthroughs. RT supports IU's researchers, scientists, artists, clinicians, and students; fosters collaborations; and aids innovations that advance information technology at IU and in the state of Indiana. RT systems and services support all IU campuses.
RT supports IU's Big Red system—one of the fastest supercomputers in the world. Big Red is part of the advanced cyberinfrastructure which includes high performance computers, massive data storage systems, data resources, advanced instruments, sensor networks, and expert consultants, all linked together by advanced software and high performance networks to improve research productivity and enable breakthroughs not otherwise possible.
IT Support for Centers and Institutes
The Office of the Vice Provost for Research provides an IT infrastructure to support centers and institutes that do not require or otherwise have the resources for a dedicated IT staff. Contact the OVPR-IT group for information about lifecycle funding, best security practices for workstations and servers, back-ups and storage, as well as web design and development.
Media Preservation Survey
IU is home to a large number of audio, video, and film collections that are historically significant and carry enduring research value. It is estimated that IUB holds over 100,000 hours of unique content in these formats.
Most of the recordings are analog, many are unique, and none reside on permanent carriers. All analog recording formats deteriorate over time, some quickly and catastrophically. Obsolescence-of playback machines, technical expertise, tools, and formats-combined with deterioration of carriers represent interacting challenges that impede the race against time to preserve important holdings. Many archivists believe that one of our generation's primary responsibilities is to digitize these holdings for long-term preservation and increased access before it is too late.
IUScholarWorks
IUScholarWorks is a set of services from the Indiana University Libraries and Indiana University Digital Library Program to make the work of IU scholars freely available and ensures that these resources are preserved and organized for the future. IUScholarWorks Repository enables IU scholars and academic units to make their scholarly materials accessible to the world, at a stable URL, and with the assurance they will be maintained over the long term. The Repository's mission is to expand the dissemination and ensure long-term preservation of IU scholarship. All material deposited in the Repository is, by default, open to the world. IUScholarWorks Journals provides an Open Access journal hosting solution for IU faculty at all campuses who are associated with the publishing functions of a journal or who want to start a new venture.

Available statewide data sets include digital aerial photos, topographic maps, and digital elevation data. In addition, the Indiana Spatial Data Portal hosts several local data sets including aerial photography for Bartholomew, Hamilton, Marion, Monroe, and Wayne counties. Various vector datasets (parcel data, zoning, land use) are also available for Monroe and Marion counties.
